Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority Begins 2017 with New Board Chairman

(January 24, 2017) - Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) names Hugh W. Grefe as the new Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.

Grefe, a former commissioner, has served multiple terms on LMHA's Board of Commissioners from 1996 through 2016. He was elected by LMHA Board of Commissioners as a replacement for the Lucas County Commissioners' appointee, William J. Brennan, whose term as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners concluded in December (2016).

Grefe brings 30+ years of affordable housing and community development expertise as the new Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for LMHA. In 2002, he was named a Fannie Mae Foundation Fellow to participate in the postgraduate Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Grefe's dedicated services include his retired position as Senior Executive Director (2015) for the Toledo and Northwest Ohio operations of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) - the nation's largest community development support corporation. In addition, he also previously served on the Riverside (Hospital) Foundation (Executive Director), Northside Corporation (President), Toledo-Lucas County Housing Fund (President), Trinity Episcopal Church (Junior Warden), Toledo Rotary (Member), College Student Insights (BGSU; Board Member), Citizens' Management Team of the Buckeye Basin Greenbelt Parkway (Co-Chair), Maumee Valley Girl Scout Council (Treasurer), Northriver Development Corporation (Chairman of the Board), Ohio Community Development Finance Fund (Board Member), Greater Toledo Urban League (Board Member) and the Commission on Outreach and Engagement for the University of Toledo (Board Member). Grefe, along with previously appointed commissioners, Barbara J. Fuqua (Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners), James A. Peppers (Commissioner), William J. Brennan (former Chairman of the Board of Commissioners), Alisha Gant (Commissioner), and Martin H. LaMar (President/CEO), will lead Northwest Ohio's largest housing authority.

Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority is a HUD-affiliated public housing agency that administers Housing Choice Vouchers throughout Lucas County, Ohio. Housing Choice Vouchers are given to eligible low-income residents, the elderly and the disabled, to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private rental market. Housing assistance is provided to assist families and individuals with securing housing which includes single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.
