Lucas Metropolitan Housing Launches Thumbs Up 2.0 Neighborhood Beautification Project

Toledo, Ohio, April 28, 2021 - Lucas Metropolitan Housing (LMH) is relaunching its neighborhood beautification program called Thumbs Up 2.0. Each LMH community site is seeking volunteers to join in this project for planting trees and flowers. After each planting session, there will be food and fellowship. Planting dates are scheduled for April 28 through June 30. Nineteen LMH community sites are involved. Residents and community members are encouraged to join the project. Once all of the sites have been completed, each site will be judged and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced.

In the late 1990s, and early 2000s, LMH had a planting program called the Thumbs Up Program. It was a program that brought staff and residents together for planting and fellowship. Somewhere around 2005, the Thumbs Up program was discontinued. Over the years, some of the LMH site grounds have become stark looking, and in need of beautification, so the program has been reinstated as Thumbs Up 2.0.

With his vision to brighten LMH neighborhoods, LMH President & CEO Joaquin Cintron Vega, with the assistance of LMH Asset Management and Resident Services staff, have launched Thumbs Up 2.0 where every site will be gathering community partners, residents and staff in order to plant trees, bushes and flowers. After the planting session, they will be invited to enjoy a meal together.

To volunteer, please register by calling the main LMH office number 419-259-9400 or contact the Property Manager at each site who will be taking the reservations. The LMH sites include the following communities: Birmingham Terrace, Ravine Park, TenEyck Towers, Weiler Homes, Spieker Terrace, Northern Heights, Harry Hansen, Vistula Manor, Port Lawrence Homes, McClinton Nunn, Dorrell Manor, John Holland Estates, Ashley Arms, Oak Grove Estates, Elmdale Court, Mercer Court, Richmar Manor, Glendale Terrace, and Flory Gardens.

Donations of flowers, trees or bushes would be gratefully accepted.
